Kaslo Park Community Mural

In 2015, with support from the Vancouver Foundation’s Neighbourhood Small Grants, the City of Vancouver’s Integrated Graffiti Management Program and the Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation, Amelia Guimarin and Cathy Stonehouse led an initiative to install a community mural at their local neighbourhood park.

The mural was modelled on Wassily Kandinsky’s Square with Concentric Circles and was painted by over 50 members of the community. The relatively simple to execute design was chosen to allow all painters to be able to contribute in their own way to a cohesive whole. The mural was painted over 2 weekends and culminated in a block party potluck with screenings from local video artists.
